Working in Saudi Arabia

What you need to know

Saudi Arabia is transforming fast. The country that was largely closed to foreign tourism and entertainment 10 years ago now has cinemas, concerts, mixed-gender workplaces, and one of the fastest-growing tech sectors in the MENA region.

Riyadh is now a genuine global business hub. The government relocated hundreds of multinationals' regional headquarters there in 2024. KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, and most major banks have expanded significantly.

English is widely spoken in business. Arabic helps but isn't required for most professional roles. Women work across all sectors. The dress code is more relaxed than it was five years ago.

Saudi Arabia jobs FAQ

Yes. Saudi Arabia has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. The expat community is large and established, particularly in Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Eastern Province. Compound living is common for families.
Saudisation (Nitaqat) requires companies to employ a minimum percentage of Saudi nationals. This affects certain sectors more than others. Oil and gas, construction, technology, and healthcare still hire significant numbers of expats.
Yes. Most employers sponsor family visas for spouses and children. Families live well in compounds with schools, gyms, and social facilities. International schools are available in all major cities.
Your employer applies for your work permit and Iqama (residency permit). You'll need a job offer first. The process takes 2-6 weeks. See our GCC visa guide for full details.
