Tech careers in the Arab world

Why now is a great time for tech careers in the region

The Gulf's digital transformation is creating sustained demand for tech talent. Saudi Arabia's NEOM and Smart Cities initiatives need thousands of software engineers and data scientists. The UAE has positioned itself as a global AI hub, attracting investment from Google, Microsoft, and Huawei.

Egypt and Jordan produce world-class engineers at competitive salaries. Cairo's Smart Village and Amman's tech corridor are home to regional engineering centres for Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Uber. Arabic-speaking engineers who can operate in English are in particularly high demand.

Remote work has also opened the Gulf up further. You can now work for a Dubai or Riyadh company while living in Cairo or Amman, earning in USD, and paying lower living costs.

Tech jobs FAQ

Python (data science, AI, backend), JavaScript/TypeScript (React, Node.js), Java (enterprise, fintech), Go (cloud infrastructure), and increasingly Rust. For mobile, Swift and Kotlin. The most valuable combination across the Gulf is cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) plus any of these languages.
For most software engineering and data science roles β€” no. English is the working language at tech companies across UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Arabic is a significant advantage for product and marketing roles targeting MENA markets, and for roles at government-linked organisations in Saudi Arabia.
Yes. Significantly more so than 5 years ago. Noon, Careem, Tabby, Anghami, and many international companies hire remote engineers from across the Arab world. Arabic speakers targeting MENA markets have a specific competitive advantage.
Strong GitHub profile, portfolio projects, and 3+ years commercial experience are what UAE tech companies look for. Apply directly on LinkedIn β€” most tech hiring in Dubai is done through LinkedIn rather than local job boards. Remote roles are a great way to get regional experience first.
