Construction careers in the Gulf

The world's biggest building site

Saudi Arabia is currently running the largest construction programme in human history. NEOM alone represents a $500bn investment across The Line, Sindalah Island, Trojena ski resort, and Oxagon industrial port. The Red Sea Project, Qiddiya entertainment city, and Diriyah Gate cultural district add hundreds of billions more.

The UAE continues building at pace. Dubai Creek Harbour, Yas Island expansions, Abu Dhabi's cultural district, and ongoing infrastructure upgrades across both emirates keep demand for experienced construction professionals consistently high.

Qatar's post-World Cup infrastructure legacy β€” roads, metro, stadiums, Lusail City β€” is being maintained and expanded. New waterfront and mixed-use developments are generating sustained demand for mid-to-senior construction roles.

Construction jobs FAQ

PMP is strongly preferred and often listed as required for senior PM roles at major contractors and consultants. That said, demonstrable experience on projects of equivalent scale is sometimes accepted in its place. PRINCE2 is less common in the GCC than PMP.
On major projects: tax-free base salary, housing allowance (or provided accommodation), annual return flights for you and family, private health insurance, and an end-of-service gratuity. Some megaproject roles also include schooling allowance and a car or transport allowance. Total package value is typically 40-60% above base salary.
Very important. FIDIC Red Book (Construction), Yellow Book (Plant/Design-Build), and Silver Book (EPC/Turnkey) govern most major GCC projects. Contracts managers and senior PMs are expected to know FIDIC inside out. NEC4 is growing in use on some UAE and Qatar government projects.
Consultants (AECOM, Parsons, Mott MacDonald) typically offer better work-life balance, office-based roles, and professional development. Contractors (Bechtel, CCC, Larsen & Toubro) pay higher base salaries, offer more site exposure, and tend to have stronger bonus structures. Both provide solid GCC experience.
