Jordan's job market

Amman punches well above its weight as a tech hub. Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Uber, and dozens of regional tech companies all have engineering centres in the city. Jordan produces highly educated, English-speaking engineers at a lower cost than any GCC country.

The NGO sector is one of Jordan's largest employers. With Syria, Iraq, and Palestine on its borders, Jordan hosts one of the world's largest refugee populations, making it home to major operations for UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, ICRC, and dozens of international NGOs.

Jordan also serves as a back-office and BPO hub for Gulf companies, with many regional firms running their customer service, finance, and tech operations from Amman to take advantage of the skilled bilingual workforce and lower costs.

Common questions

Jordan jobs FAQ

Yes. Amman's tech scene has grown significantly since 2018. Amazon, Google, and Microsoft all have engineering offices here. The startup ecosystem is active, and Jordan produces more engineers per capita than almost anywhere else in the Arab world.
International NGO positions (P-level UN roles, INGO programme manager positions) are generally well compensated in USD, often with housing allowances, R&R flights, and hazard pay. National staff positions pay local market rates which are lower.
It depends on the role. Tech roles at multinationals and NGO positions are often conducted in English. Arabic is important for roles that require interaction with local clients, government, or communities. Most Jordanian professionals are bilingual.
Jordan salaries are lower than GCC rates but so is the cost of living. Many professionals use Jordan as a stepping stone, building experience with multinational companies or NGOs before moving to higher-paying UAE or Saudi Arabia roles. The quality of life in Amman is considered high.
